Why this matters
"Digital agency Vancouver" is one of the most-searched B2B queries in BC — and one of the easiest to get burned on. There are over 200 firms claiming the title; fewer than 30 can actually ship a serious production website. This is the 2026 buyer's guide we wish every Vancouver founder, marketing lead, and procurement officer had on day one.
The short version
If you only have two minutes:
- Senior team, not seniors-in-the-pitch + juniors-after-the-SOW. Confirm in writing who will actually do the work.
- Fixed-fee, not time-and-materials. Vancouver agencies that won't commit to scope are protecting themselves at your expense.
- Multi-stack capability. WordPress, Drupal, Shopify, Webflow, and React all have their place. Watch out for agencies that only sell what they only build.
- AEO-ready. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews are shifting how Canadian buyers find vendors. If your shortlist can't tell you their AEO process, they're behind.
- AODA + WCAG 2.2 AA by default. Not an add-on, not a Phase 2 line item.
- Canadian-context content. A Vancouver agency that writes US-flavoured copy for your BC audience is going to cost you trust.
Pricing in CAD (2026)
Here's what a senior Vancouver digital agency actually charges in 2026:
| Project type | Realistic CAD range | | --- | --- | | Brochure marketing site (8–15 pages) | $20,000 – $45,000 | | Mid-market WordPress / Webflow build | $45,000 – $120,000 | | Enterprise Drupal or custom CMS | $120,000 – $350,000 | | Shopify / Shopify Plus build | $35,000 – $150,000 | | Monthly retainer (marketing + SEO + AEO) | $5,000 – $20,000 / month |
Below the bottom of these bands you're usually buying a template build or paying for juniors. Above the top you're paying for sales overhead.
The shortlist questions that actually matter
When you're interviewing Vancouver digital agencies, ask these and watch for evasion:
- "Who specifically will do the work?" Get names. Get titles. Get LinkedIn links. Then ask if those people will be in your kickoff.
- "What's your AEO process?" If they say "we'll add schema," they're not doing AEO. The right answer involves weekly multi-engine citation tracking (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude) and a content restructuring playbook.
- "How do you enforce WCAG 2.2 AA?" Should include design-phase enforcement, an automated CI check, and a manual audit pre-launch.
- "What's your CMS recommendation philosophy?" A red flag: they recommend the same CMS to every client. A green flag: they push back on your assumed stack.
- "Show me a launch you shipped on time and on budget." Get references.
- "What happens on day 31?" Most agencies disappear after launch. The good ones have a post-launch support model — staging, monitoring, monthly reports, and a real human on-call.
Red flags
- "We don't do fixed-fee" → they want to protect themselves at your expense
- "We can build whatever you want on WordPress" → they only build on WordPress
- "AI search is overhyped" → they don't know how to do it
- A junior account manager on every call → the senior team isn't doing your work
- No published rate card or pricing examples → they're flying blind on margins
- Bottom-of-page Google reviews are all 5-star and dated last month → bought reviews
The Vancouver-specific things to check
- Are they actually here? "Vancouver office" on the website often means a virtual address. Ask for a meeting at their office. Watch what happens.
- Do they understand BC and Canadian compliance? PIPA, PIPEDA, the BC Accessibility Act, AODA if you have Ontario customers. A US-focused agency will hand-wave these.
- Bilingual / French content if you serve federal or Quebec markets. Most Vancouver agencies can't ship FR/EN. The ones that can charge appropriately.
- Time-zone overlap with your team. A Vancouver agency outsourcing to Eastern Europe gives you a 9-hour gap and 6am standups.

When to call us
If you're shortlisting Vancouver digital agencies and want a second opinion on a quote you're holding — we'll review it for free and tell you honestly whether it's fair. If you're earlier in the process and want help defining scope before going to RFP, that's our favourite phase to plug in.
Wrapping up
Vancouver's digital agency market is crowded, but the senior tier is small. Pick a partner who'll be there in year three, not just at the launch party. And if you're sceptical of every word above because it came from an agency blog — good. Test the questions above against three agencies on your shortlist and see who answers honestly.
